On March 20, the education community lost one of its brightest stars with the passing of Deputy Chancellor of Educator Quality Dr. Brian Dassler, 38.

Brian attended Pembroke Lakes Elementary, Walter C. Young Middle School, and graduated from Cooper City High School, all within the Broward County Public School District. Brian earned a bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Florida where he has twice been named an outstanding young alumnus.

A 2006 Broward County and Stranahan High School Teacher of the Year, Brian’s first job was as a high school English teacher at Stranahan High School in Broward County. He was the youngest teacher to receive that award. He also was one of the founding teachers and a lifetime member of the Urban Teacher Academy Program in Broward County and a speaker and presenter of Leadership Florida.

Broward Education Foundation has established the Brian Dassler Memorial Fund in Brian’s name.

“Brian was passionate, dedicated and always said how blessed he was by the rich experiences he had in and out of the Broward County classroom,” said Shea Ciriago, executive director, of Broward Education Foundation. With this memorial fund, Brian’s incredible legacy will live on through students and teachers that meant so much to him.”
