BROWARD COUNTY – Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) has been busy this summer collecting much needed school supplies for students in Broward County Title I schools. BSO donated more than $15,000 worth of school supplies to fill the shelves of Broward Education Foundation’s School Supply Center.
“While it is essential that our first responders have the training and tools necessary to keep our students safe, we also need to help ensure our youth have the supplies they need to succeed,” said Sheriff Gregory Tony. “I’m proud of the men and women of my agency for helping our students begin a successful and safe school year.”
Among the supplies in the 30 collection boxes delivered to Broward Education Foundation were pink erasers, crayons, glue sticks, composition books, colored pencils, folders, paper, pencils, pencil cases and more. Donations were collected at each BSO station in Broward County as well as during multiple back to school supply drives for the public in Pompano Beach and Dania Beach.
Teachers from Title I Broward County Public Schools shop for free twice annually at Broward Education Foundation’s School Supply Center so their students will have basic supplies to start and finish the school year. Nearly 70 percent of students in Broward County Public Schools are enrolled in free and reduced lunch programs. Many families must choose shelter, food and clothing over school supplies.
“Broward Education Foundation’s School Supply Center equips students for success,” said Broward Education Foundation’s Executive Director Shea Ciriago. “Teachers know best what their students need to succeed in the classroom. We’re very proud to partner with Broward Sheriff’s Office in proactively serving our community.”
