The Grinion Family Bowling Scholarship

At the tender age of 5, Ledonovan’s passion for bowling was born as he joined his parents and older brother Levon on the lanes. He demonstrated early on that he was serious about mastering the craft of the game and was intentional about practicing on the most challenging lane conditions and going above and beyond to learn to be great.

Ledonovan attended Sunset Lakes Elementary School and began taking piano lessons by day and advancing on the bowling lane by night. Glades Middle School followed, during which time he continued to excel in the classroom and as he traveled throughout the Southeast Region in Junior League bowling tournaments. By then, his younger sister Nia joined the family affair as avid bowlers and nearly every weekend was spent together on the road with their love of the sport. Ledonovan graduated in the Class of 2012 from Everglades High School and decided to dedicate the next few years mastering his craft.

Ledonovan accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized at the age of 8 at The Fountain of Pembroke Pines where his family worshipped together. His parents and grandma made sure he, Levon and Nia actively participated in Sunday school, Vacation Bible School and all the fun activities for youth. Ledonovan served in the Usher Ministry and enjoyed The Fountain’s summer Math Academy. He was one of the scholars who learned and frequently recited the motivational speech, “How Bad Do You Want It” by Les Brown. More than just a passage, Ledonovan worked day and night and gave up his time, his peace and his sleep for it to be at the top of his bowling game. He dreamt of perfecting his game and becoming a professional bowler.

Ledonovan gladly sweated for, fretted for and planned for it. He did believe that if he simply went after that thing that he wanted with all of his capacity, strength, tenacity, faith, hope and confidence; then with the help of GOD he will get it.” On May 11, 2013, Ledonovan made history and bowled a perfect game of 300. He was 18 years old.

Ledonovan stayed at the top of his game, always earning a spot on the trophy stage of local and national tournaments. His trophy case overflows with First Place, High Average, Perfect Game and many others honors. Ledonovan was a respected member of The National Bowling Association. Aside from bowling, Ledonovan loved his PS5 and XBOX video challenges, playing ping-pong and recreational basketball and throwing the football. DETERMINED – SELFLESS – GENUINE are words used by his mother, older brother Levon and sister Nia to describe Ledonovan. He was a gentle giant of a young man whose curious demeanor kept his learning. He was a fighter and never gave up and believed that if you are intentional about working hard for you want, you can achieve it. Ledonovan died suddenly of a pulmonary embolism on th evening of Thursday, August 26, 2021. Gone too soon but forever in our hearts. May his legacy live on through those who knew and loved him and through the purposeful lives of the recipients of The Grinion Family Bowling Scholarship.
