Fort Lauderdale, Florida – January 21, 2021 – Broward Education Foundation, the only 501(c)3 charitable organization solely dedicated to supporting Broward County Public Schools, today announced it has received two $2,000 grants from AT&T.

The first $2,000 AT&T grant will underwrite Learning is More than a Hobby, a program created by Andrea Swift, a teacher at Cross Creek Center School.in Pompano Beach. It was designed to teach students how to better understand of the role of theories, laws, hypotheses and models by exploring basic mechanics and building concepts by creating a variety of model kits. Students will attend several workshops at a local hobby store and participate in experiments which investigate principles of centrifugal force and engineering fundamentals.

The second $2,000 AT&T grant will fund Archaeological Tales from the Crypt, an inventive curriculum designed by Roberto Fernandez, III, a teacher at Plantation High School. Participating students will collect data from veteran markers at an historic local cemetery, analyze archival data to learn personal stories about these deserving veterans, write an analytical report which will help students not only learn about significant historical events but preserve a neglected aspect of Broward’s history as well.

“We are incredibly thankful for AT&T’s continued generosity and funding which allows us support both Broward County Public Schools teachers and students,” said Shea Cirago, executive director of Broward Education Foundation. “These are two extremely deserving programs which will expand imaginations and understanding of STEM principles through hands-on training.”
