FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – (January 20, 2022) – Broward Education Foundation announced it received a $5,000 grant from State Farm® to support auto safety programs in Broward County public high schools in an effort to curb teen driving accidents, especially those related to texting and driving.
According to the Florida Department of Motor Vehicles, in 2020 more than 34,000 traffic accidents were recorded in Broward County alone, many of which resulted in fatalities or injuries.
“We are grateful for State Farm’s continued support which help educate young drivers about how to drive responsibility and keep our roads safe,” said Shea Ciriago, CEO of Broward Education Foundation.
Broward County Public School’s driver’s education program reaches 2,000 students annually through sites at 11 high schools. The classes include road practice, as well as the ability to earn both driver’s permits and licenses. In addition, the school system hosts webcasts, presentations and assemblies to spread the safe driving message to all students.
